G2CS Summer Camp and Community

Girls Gather for Computer Science (G2CS), an innovative approach to developing and sustaining middle school girls' interest in computer science begins with a four-week-long summer camp. Computer science professors and industry professionals are looking for middle school teachers to assist in creating the camp curriculum and to participate in the activities with the girls. Teachers will be on site for one week of the four-week camp, as well as attend a planning meeting in the spring, opening and closing banquets, and one overnight field trip to Seattle. During camp, computer science professors, industry professionals and undergraduate students will lead activities. Teachers are invited to assist and to learn. For more information, including schedules and instructor bios, visit the camp section of the web site.

Who Should Apply?

Are you interested in how technology impacts your life, and the lives of your students? Are you excited about helping girls develop the self-confidence to pursue careers in science? The G2CS summer camp needs certified middle-school teachers to participate in one of the weeklong camp sessions—science and technology, web programming and design, programming, or hardware and robotics—as both educators and learners. You don't need to have advanced skills in computer science.

Time Investment

Teachers will fully participate in one week of the camp. The day starts at 9am and ends at 4pm, and each week will include one or two field trips. To participate in the camp, teachers must also attend:

Stipend & Sub Days

You will receive a stipend of $1,000. Additionally, G2GS will cover the cost of four sub days (two in the fall and two in the spring at $250 each) for you to share what you have learned by participating in G2GS with your colleagues. G2GS will cover half a day for you to prepare, and half a day to share with others. The two other half days cover two teachers to attend your presentation.
